Cry of my Spirit
There is a cry from deep within,
Directed to Your throne.
My spirit crying out for mercy
In darkness and alone.
But covering over it is pride
Like concrete, blocking out the light.
Sinful man, with sinful ways
Well established - such a sight!
To the unseeing eye it can look good
Even beautiful and true.
Or it can be an ugly form
Where its damage is on view.
And yet the answer is the same
For the ugly and the good:
The covering must be crushed and broken,
The old man be removed.
But the shadow of an evil foe
Towers over all this scene,
And seems to hold me back with thoughts -
Fear is its name.
Give me the desire to be set free
That’s greater than the fear,
And wisdom to know that LIFE
Will only come when You are near.
Can I ask You please
To break the pride and all that stands between.
Crush it, smash it and, in Your mercy,
Create in me again.
Make me new, make me whole,
There is no other way.
Free me from the prison of my self.
This is my prayer today.
